Abbot’s FreeStyle Libre sensor revolutionized how diabetics track their blood sugar all over the world. Over the last few months the Diabetes:M team was hard at work to utilize the amazing power of Libre. Today, we are happy to announce that with our latest update, you can track your condition even easier with our brand new CGM features.
How it works
Diabtes:M uses third-party tools to scan and receive data from the sensor. There are different options for our FREE and PREMIUM users, as described below:
– As a FREE user, you can manually scan the sensor via NFC with your Android phone. The app will receive the latest entry and the entries from the last 8 hours. (click here to see how to set up NFC)
– As a PREMIUM user, you can take advantage of the two most popular Bluetooth connected devices Diabetes:M supports – MiaoMiao and Ambrosia’s Blucon. Those are small transmitters which sit on top of the sensor and pass data to the phone every 5 minutes. They will automatically create new entries with the reading every 15 minutes by default.
The CGM dashboard
When you activate the CGM features, a brand new dashboard will appear on the Home screen of the app. It is designed to show you the most relevant information about your blood sugar levels, calibration points and information on the sensor’s life.
The graph generally includes two horizontal lines – gray for raw data and colored for calibrated data. Red crosses mark calibration entries (when you check your blood sugar manually).
You can set up specific options for the dashboard with a simple tap on it.
If you select this option, every time a new reading is received, the app will fire a notification with the reading and the trend. This can be very useful if you have a transmitter and your phone is lying on the desk and you can see the latest reading without opening the app. Those notifications will also go to smart bracelets, fitness bracelets or smartwatches if their software allows them to receive notifications from third-party apps.
You can also set the app to alarm you if your predicted glucose levels are about to go too high or too low.
The new feature will be available for iOS devices in the coming months.
